Vice Chancellor PIDE
Economist, policymaker, and academic with 25 years of diverse experience spanning policymaking, central banking, consulting, teaching, and research.
Currently, I serve as the Vice Chancellor of the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE)—the country’s premier public-sector think tank and graduate research university, established in 1957. In this capacity, I am leading institutional transformation, strengthening research-policy linkages, and steering postgraduate programs (MPhil and PhD) in economics, development, and public policy. I also serve ex-officio as Member of the Planning Commission of Pakistan, contributing directly to national economic strategy and public policy.
Previously, as Chief Economist of Pakistan, I advised the highest decision-making bodies including the National Economic Council (NEC), Executive Committee of NEC (ECNEC), Federal Cabinet, and Central Development Working Party (CDWP). I oversaw the investment programming of around 1,300 projects spanning social development, higher education, IT, energy, governance, and infrastructure, with an annual development budget of Rs. 1,000 billion and a portfolio of Rs. 8.5 trillion.
Experience

Leading the country’s premier public-sector think tank in economics and development studies, established in 1957 and mandated by Act No. VIII of 2010 as a degree-awarding institution offering MPhil and PhD programs only.

I taught "Macroeconomics and Global Economy", "Innovation Strategy", "Strategy for Emerging Markets" and "Competitive Strategy & Game Theory" to MBA and Eexcutive MBA programs besides conducting research, consulting and customized executive education programs for public and corporate sector.

My office was responsible to conduct appraisal and coordination of national economic policies, perspective planning and Public Sector Investment Programming besides advising the highest decision-making forums such as Central Development Working Party (CDWP)

My office was tasked with appraisal and coordination of national economic policies and perspective planning (National Five Year Plans, Annual Development Plans, CPEC’s long-term Planning and Public Sector Development Programs).

I worked as a resource person to Minister for Planning, Development and reform. I was responsible to undertake reviews, analyze policies and institutional structures to identify challenges and key reforms for national development.
